Do you have 30 days to change the world?

springblossomsoverwaterHave you ever read something that resonates with you so deeply that you want to share it with everyone? So, it is with this suggested benediction by Sister Joan Chittister, from her book, A Monastery Almanac. It’s a blessing in the form of a challenge to co-create change. Simple. Profound. Doable. Potentially powerful. Thank you, Sister Joan. I am up for the challenge.

Try saying this silently to everyone and everything you see for thirty days and see what happens to your own soul:

“I wish you happiness now and whatever will bring happiness to you in the future.”

If we said it to the sky, we would have to stop polluting, if we said it to the ponds and lakes and streams, we would have to stop using them as garbage dumps and sewers; if we said it to small children we would have to stop abusing them, even in the name of training; if we said it to people, we would have to stop stoking the fires of enmity around us. Beauty and human warmth would take root in us like a clear, hot June day. We would change.

You are so right, Mary Jo! Leave it to those Irish Catholic nuns to give us the big questions and the big goals. And, I know for a fact, you already live your life this way. Take precious care and much love, dear friend.

It sounds so simple…yet sadly we are so far from it. How and why is that? Certainly room for self examination here! Youcha! Thanks for such an inspiring thought at this time of new beginnings and self-improvement!
