    LOVE it!
    Indeed, we know that children cannot learn under stress, and that when a child is hypervigilant, or anxious, or worried, or sad, or preoccupied with whether they can do a task or not–the language centers of their brains shut down, their ability to process information slows, their ability to make connections and utilize new pathways is diminished.
    Sadness dilutes learning. Calmness allows it, but contentment and happiness, connection and delight–absolutely optimize learning.
    Much of children’s lack of happiness at their own achievements or abilities is borne of society’s interpretation of them, and of what they learn from us–their models–about what is or is not important.
    It is not about praising mediocre or half-heartened efforts as awesome (over-praising dilutes praise and makes it meaningless), but about allowing true effort to be its own reward. About allowing creativity flow. About teaching rules without forcing too much conforming.
